Math
This week in math we will continue solving problems using a multitude of strategies. One strategy the students may use is the Use 10 strategy. For example, when solving the number sentence 9+5 you can use a ten by thinking 9 and 1 make 10 and then add on 4 more.

Another strategy students can use when adding is knowing their doubles facts (ex. 8+8). If you know your doubles it will also help you when adding near doubles such as 8+9. If you know 8+8 is 16 then 8+9 must be 17 because 9 is one more than 8.
We will also continue working on using a variety of strategies to solve subtraction problems. Your child may practice counting back, getting to 10, thinking of halves (18-9=9), or thinking of a related addition fact.
Science
This week in science we will continue our learning of natural sources of water. We will focus on rivers and streams. Your child will participate in class read-alouds, discussions, and note taking activities.
Social Studies
This week in social studies we will continue our learning of Texas symbols.
