Reading
- In Reader's Workshop this week, we will continue taking a closer look at words.
- We will use parts of words we already know to help figure out new words.
- Readers will also look out for unusual words in their books, such as contractions (couldn't, he's, can't).
- At the end of the week, we will celebrate all our hard work as Word Detectives.
Writing
- In Writer's Workshop, we will be publishing our How-to books.
- Writers will use everything they've learned as how-to writers to revise and edit their pieces.
- We will celebrate our How-To unit by writing a class teaching book about how to make trail mix. We will eat the trail mix we make while we share our published writing with each other.
Phonics
- This week in phonics we will pay attention to three letter blends at the beginning of a word (strawberry).
- We will also investigate contractions. We will not be fooled by an apostrophe disguising two words so they look and sound like one word.
- Detectives will also learn that compound words are like a puzzle piece. They have two small words that fit together to make a new, bigger word (cowboy, butterfly, baseball).
