Reading
- In Reader's Workshop we will continue to work our learning all we can about nonfiction books.
- We will practice doing a slow check, double-checking that the word makes sense.
- We will also notice how some of the new words we run into in our books can be tricky. Readers don't just skip over those words, they say the word the best they can and think, "what does this new word mean?"
- Nonfiction readers are also on the lookout for key words in their books. We will learn that it is important to be on the lookout for key words, words that are key to understanding the topic.
Writing
- In Writer's Workshop, we will continue learning more strategies to help teach our readers even more. We will learn that writers write an introduction for their books to let the reader know what they will learn.
- Next we will learn that nonfiction writers also have a conclusion that leaves their reader with a big thought or idea.
- We are becoming experts at writing nonfiction books!
Phonics
- In phonics this week we will notice how every syllable in a word has a vowel and remember this rule when we go to write letters for the sounds we hear in words.
