Reading
- We will continue working on becoming super smart about nonfiction books! We will practice making our voices sound smooth and lively as we read and not read like robots!
- We will also continue practicing retelling our nonfiction books, thinking about the topic, the facts we learned, and why those facts are important!
- ***On Friday (November 8th), your child will brought home a nonfiction book in their literacy pocket in their binder. Next Wednesday November 20th, they will be taking a comprehension grade over this book. This will not be a test grade. They will have all week to read the book and practice the comprehension skills and strategies we have taught in class. Please read the book several times at home so they are familiar with it. They will be allowed to use the book when they take the grade, however if they do not have the book with them that day they will take the grade without the book. Thank you so much for working with your child on their reading!
Writing
- We will continue writing nonfiction teaching books this week in Writer's Workshop! Writers will explore illustrations in nonfiction books vs. fiction books.
- We will also learn how nonfiction writers do their best to sound out fancy, teaching words.
Phonics
- This week in phonics we will begin a new unit. We will start by reading all the way across words, paying close attention to the beginning, middle, and end of words.
- We will also explore the different sounds -ed can make at the end of a word (ed, d, and t)
- We will look at the -y at the end of words and notice how it can make the long -e and long -i sound.
