Math
On Monday, your child will be bringing home a math review sheet for our upcoming assessment on graphing. Please have your child complete the review sheet. They will turn it on Thursday.
This week in Math, we will also be discussing what it means to show our work. We will talk about how we show our work we validate our answer and thinking. We will discuss how mathematicians show their work in different ways. For instance using pictures or numbers. The students will solve a word problem and will use tools to to help them solve the problem. We should also write neatly, take our time, and and check our work.
We will also be focus on the different routines and procedures during workshop. For instance, how to use the materials, how to transition, voice level, how do we clean up, where do we turn in our work, etc.
The teacher will introduce the students to the math rotation picture chart. Each week, students will rotate through four different stations during math workshop (independent work, partner work, technology, and teacher table.)
We will be introducing the students to Dreambox this week during workshop. Dreambox is new math program that we will be using this year. You will be receiving more information regarding Dreambox at our parent orientation on Thursday.
Science
This week in science we will be learning about our bodies. We will be tracing our bodies to create an interactive word wall by labeling the heart, lungs, stomach, and brain. The students will then add a body outline to their Science Journals and label it appropriately, adding the function of each body part, too.
Social Studies:
This week in SS, we will be learning about school leaders (principal, librarian, custodian) and community helpers (teacher, fireman, police officer, etc.).
