Math
We will begin the week with an introduction to 3 dimensional shapes. Students will get the opportunity to sort 2D and 3D shapes. We will discuss that 2D shapes are flat and 3D shapes are solid. Throughout the week, we will be creating a 3D shape anchor chart focusing on specific attributes (name of shape, number of faces, number of edges). The shapes we will be learning about: cube, triangular prism, pyramid, rectangular prism, cone, sphere, pyramid, cylinder.
The students will get to construct a 3D shape using Play-doh and toothpicks. The students will learn that a vertex is a corner of a shape. The students will use the shapes they have created and will touch each vertex (marshmallow/playdoh ball) and count how many vertices each shape has. For instance, a cone has 1 vertex and a cube has 8 vertices.
The students will also play a game called, What's in the Bag. One student will choose one shape from the group of shapes and place it in a paper bag while their partner closes their eyes. The other student will then reach in and say I feel "6 sides, 6 edges, and 6 faces. The figure is a cube!" Partners will take turns guessing what shape is in the bag by feeling the shapes attributes.

Science
This week in Science we will continue our unit on observing and recording changes in the appearance of objects in the sky such as the Moon and stars, including the Sun. Students will work as table to groups to formulate and write a question. The questions will be gathered and the teacher will create a Kahoot with the 10 different questions to test their knowledge!
Social Studies
We will be learning about the word RESPECT. We will read some storybooks about respect and discuss what it means to be respectful.
