Math: This week in math we will be focusing on word problems as well as using a part part whole mat to solve addition and subraction problems to 10. A part-part-whole is similar to fact families and allows your child to manipulate numbers. The video below is an example of how we will begin our word problems. Starting with a "story" first and later including more information and specifically the numbers. This allows us to check for story comprehension, so the student knows how to solve the problem. We will have 2 2-day rotations of math workshop where the students will work on these concepts.

Science: Last week in Science we learned about our 5 senses, and on Monday we will use them to describe an item. This will lead us into the properties of matter. The students will use the item they brought from home to learn about texture, size, color, shape and weight. Each student will bring their object home with a word for each property of matter.
Social Studies: We will continue learning about maps and the cardinal directions. We will play games for the students to practice their directions. We will also continue looking up addresses for the students to see on a map.
